STARTING OUT
An early project for a hip menswear client and friend, undertaken in collaboration with KPMB partner Bruce Kuwabara, advancing investigations and experiments in formal and material pleasures.
QUICK START
In launching an architectural practice, it is advantageous to secure work that affords the opportunity to experiment, express ideas and get projects built relatively quickly. In this case, a series of sequential retail projects enabled partners Bruce Kuwabara and Thomas Payne to get started. These ‘starting out’ projects became a vital testing ground for initial creative impulses and work alchemies.
CONTRA
Compensation for the work was in fees and contra, which enabled our client to keep soft costs down, while enabling us to hone our skills as proprietors/artists/businessmen-and to dress well.
