REHONOURED

A major regional drama company intersects with the academy on a 19th century Toronto industrial heritage campus, resulting in a uniquely animated 24/7 place.

GREATNESS

At the center of Yale, just off Cross Campus, Sprague Memorial Hall embodies the greatness of the university’s music programme. It is an architectural treasure, requiring the architect’s deft hand.

ART + DIALOGUE

The users of this space – Dean Robert Blocker, faculty, administration, students – were involved from the beginning, thus ensuring that the perfect combination of technical improvements was incorporated.

SALIENT FEATURES

Without compromising the heritage qualities of Sprague Hall, the following transformations were incorporated:

  • Subtle visual integration of the lobby to the street, making the building’s public space more accessible and inviting
  • Window treatment to isolate sound and enable full light or blackout for operettas
  • New control room, sound and light locks and score reading locations
  • Morse hall outfitted as a recording studio
  • Performance lighting
  • Invisible upgrade to systems and finishes
